Help Get the Drivers License Test Translated

Categories: Archived,Campaigns,General Annoucements,Immigration Reform,Transportation Equity

FACE leaders on Oahu and Maui have been working all year to get an agreement from the State Department of Transportation to restore the written driver’s test translations they cancelled in 2010 and to add Ilocano, Chuukese and Marshallese. You can help by sending a Christmas postcard to the head of the Hawaii DOT. (Download here.) If you print it on cardstock, it does not need an envelope. If you want more copies, call FACE at 375-9560 and we will get you more to distribute.

On September 6, FACE filed a lawsuit in Federal Court against the Hawaii DOT to require them to fulfill their translation obligations. The Hawaii Attorney General’s Office filed a Motion to Dismiss the case and the Motion will be heard December 3. FACE’s September 6 press conference announcing the lawsuit was covered in newspapers across the country and radio stations in New Zealand and Australia. For more information on this campaign, please call Veronica Teico at 283-9240.

FACE held a press conference at the Father Damien Statue at the State Capitol September 6 to announce the filing of our lawsuit against the Department of Transportation for failing to translate the written drivers test.
